China Design Museum (now part of their permanent collection)
This 50-yard weaving stores over 4,000 encrypted messages that were collected during the 2019 Triennial of Fiber Art. Significantly, this exhibition was on display in Hangzhou, before, during and after the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic. All 4,000 messages collected during this moment in time were done in complete confidence and the encryption scheme allowed for complete freedom of speech between viewer and project. Now all of the messages have been encoded and encrypted into this textile which was acquired by the China Design Museum as part of its permanent collection.
Due to travel restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, the project had to be 3D-modelled to scale and was sent with architectural drawings to the museum in order to ensure proper installation, done remotely from Montreal.
